A green oasis, living space for humans and nature – in the heart of the urban room Bayerischer Bahnhof along the prominent North-South axis parallel to the city tunnel Leipzig (S-Bahn Terasse) is the city park with 6 hectares.
Maintaining, protecting, new planting
Shrubs that are worth to be maintained are going to be integrated into the park creation whenever possible. These shrubs will be expanded in a purposeful manner through comprehensive new plantations of regional bushes and flowers.
Along the Bahnstrasse the urban climatic valuable free space will be maintained and redesigned into a variously usable district park.
Here natural and species protection, diverse usage requirements, and well-connected walking and cycling paths will be considered.
Well established – good climate
The building sector causes 40% of the emissions. Thus, climate and environmental protection is an essential lever for new residential construction. This is also considered in the construction plan of the Bayerischer Bahnhof. So we establish buildings with modern energy standards. A majority of the building will have green areas on the roof. These areas will create natural insulation and a comfortable living climate. Also, these areas offer living areas for insects, birds, and microorganism and are essential for rainwater retention. Through the water evaporation from the leaves, the air gets cooled naturally and creates a great climate.
Recreation and green areas for everyone
Walking, cycling, playing or connecting: Also this will be possible in the urban space Bayerischer Bahnhof. Along the Bahnstrasse will be a new public district park, which will spread towards the adjacent city park. It offers the neighbourhood diverse recovery and opportunities for movement. There will be a walking and cycling ways facing North and South as well as crossing facilities with East and West orientation for pedestrians and cyclists. You can find more information about that under the info section subfield district park (Stadtteilpark).
Strolling from and to the portico
The distinctive, historic building can be seen very well along the visual axis. Young and old can get to the landmark through the green city park, coming from the South. While the creation of the necessary living space, we also take the chance to open up areas. This means that the rainwater can preferably seep away on the land. So it gets back into the natural water cycle.
Under social sustainability, we mean that there are qualities which offer a benefit to everyone. This includes daycare, school, areas for playing and sport and everything in an open city room. So the neighbourhood gets connected and an excellent mixed and diverse quarter evolves. You can find further information in the specific subfields.
